TORRENCE STAYS CONSISTENT, QUALIFIES SECOND AGAIN

May 19, 2012 -- Steve Torrence is in a groove – a very good groove – going into Sunday’s NHRA Summernationals eliminations at Heartland Park Topeka.

He won his first Top Fuel race at Atlanta two weeks ago and earned his first number one qualifying berth four races ago.  He put the finishing touches on his third consecutive second-place qualifying position Saturday afternoon with two more 3.8-second elapsed times.

His quickest run -- 3.801 at 320 mph – came Friday night.

Now Torrence would like to make it back-to-back victories for the Torrence Racing/Capco Contractors team.  He races Hillary Will (No. 15, 3.891 at 319.29) in the first round.

“We are happy with the way our car is running,” said Torrence, “but tomorrow is a new day... and we are in Topeka so we never know what kind of weather to expect.

“It’s nice to see Hillary racing again. We want to keep follow the same plan we used in Atlanta.  We liked the way that one turned out."
