TORRENCE PRODUCES CAREER-BEST RUN IN E-TOWN QUALIFYING

June 1, 2012 -- Steve Torrence took his quickest 1000-foot ride Friday evening at iconic Old Bridge Township Raceway Park qualifying for Sunday’s 43rd annual Toyota SuperNationals.

The Torrence Racing/Capco Contractors Inc. Top Fuel dragster blasted down the track in 3.759 seconds at 324.20mph.

“We made two good runs,” said Torrence, who opened with a 3.814 at 323.12.  “We have something figured out.  There were a lot of good runs out there.  Heck, I ran my career best and it was only good for fifth place.  It was good to get deep into the field on the first run.

“After that run, we knew we could have good numbers in the last session, so we stood on it and the car responded.  Our consistency is still there.  Cooler weather conditions for Saturday’s could bring more good runs.”

Spencer Massey led the pack with a track-record 3.728 seconds and was followed by Morgan Lucas’ 3.739.
