HEAT SLOWS TIMES; TORRENCE STAYS NO. 1 QUALIFIER AT NORWALK

July 7, 2012 -- Another day of brutal heat and humidity Saturday in Norwalk, Ohio kept good elapsed times to a bare minimum and Steve Torrence remained the number one Top Fuel qualifier for Sunday’s Summit Racing Equipment Nationals.

“It was a miserable day,” Torrence said. “It was tough in the race car.  I had trouble keeping the sweat out of my eyes.  It was just one of those days.”

Torrence’s Friday night run of 3.892 seconds at 319.98 mph wasn’t challenged.  His best time Saturday was 4.080 and he also ran 4.673 at 163.39.

“The good news is the weather is supposed to get better . . . and that will change all racing conditions as well,” he added.  A high of 83 degrees is predicted.

Torrence’s first-round race is against Brandon Bernstein (No. 16, 4.040 at 272.89.

“Brandon is a good driver,” said Torrence.  “We’ll be ready.  It should be an interesting day of racing.”
