TORRENCE SEEKING ANOTHER GOOD MEMORY AT THE MOTORPLEX

September 18, 2012 -- There may not be a cake and candle in sight this weekend, but the Torrence Racing/ Capco Contractors Inc. Top Fuel team from Kilgore, Texas, will be celebrating its first anniversary at the 26th annual AAA Texas Fall Nationals.

The main focus, however, will be on the race track, where Steve Torrence intends to rebound from what he described as a “horrible race last week in Charlotte.”  It began with an opening-round loss in NHRA’s first Countdown to the Champion playoff race.

“We’ve had some mechanical issues recently and we haven’t been running as good as we have been,” said Torrence.  “We did take care of the problem so I am really looking forward to this race. It is very special because the Motorplex is my home track.

“I have a lot of good memories of racing at the Motorplex and I hope to add another one on Sunday.

“We ran our team’s first Top Fuel race here last year and it is where I started racing.  It’s also where I clinched the 2005 Top Alcohol championship.  There will be a lot of Capco people, friends and fans here supporting us.”

His exceptional performance this year includes three victories in five final rounds and he was fourth in the Full Throttle Series regular season competition.  He did slip down to eighth in the tightly bunched top 10 after Sunday’s setback.  However, he trails pacesetting Tony Schumacher by only 77points (2,170-2,093).

“We are about three and a half rounds (20 points per round win) behind Tony,” said Torrence.  “We can make that up over the next five races.  I am confident Richard Hogan and the crew will have a good race car for me this weekend.”
