TORRENCE 6TH QUICKEST AS FALL NATIONALS BEGIN IN TEXAS

September 21, 2012 -- Steve Torrence showed Friday how happy he is to be in his home state and racing again at the Texas Motorplex.

The Kilgore resident began the AAA NHRA Fall Nationals on a positive note during a hot afternoon, clicking off runs of 3.974 and 3.850 seconds in the Torrence Racing/Capco Contractors Inc. Top
Fuel dragster.  He is sixth in the provisional lineup for the second Countdown to the Championship playoff event and eighth in the championship standings, 77 points behind pacesetter Tony Schumacher.

“It was a satisfying day for us,” he said.  “Richard (Hogan, crew chief) did another good job tuning the car on a very hot race track.  He is looking for ways to get us to run quicker on our two runs on Saturday.

“We do need to pick up the pace.  We want to win rounds on Sunday to stay in championship contention.”
