TORRENCE VS. J.R. TODD IN FIRST ROUND AT INDY

September 8, 2012 -- Steve Torrence will start 11th Sunday when eliminations begin for the 58th U.S. Nationals . . . weather permitting.

Torrence made two qualifying runs when the race resumed Saturday – later than expected, thanks to a heavy storm that dropped 2.5 inches of rain during the night.  He wasn’t able to improve his best lap of 3.834 seconds at 295.34 mph from last week’s action before the wet stuff took over Lucas Oil Raceway.  He had a run of 3.895 at 316.82 to start the day.

“We will be ready to go on Sunday,” Torrence said.  “This is the last race before the Countdown (to the Championship), and we’d like to go into the playoffs on a positive note.”

He meets J.R. Todd (No. 6, 3.814 at 322.19 mph) in the first round.
