TORRENCE: LET’S WIN THIS RACE FOR OUR HOMETOWN FANS

April 24, 2013 -- Five races into his second season at the controls of the Torrence Racing/Capco Contractors Inc.
Top Fuel dragster, Steve Torrence still has many items on his racing to-do list to cross off.

Already gone are: Win a race (he won three in 2012: Atlanta, Englishtown, N.J. and Seattle);
Qualify first: (he did at Charlotte and Norwalk, Ohio); and finish in the elite top 10 (he was ninth).

There is another opportunity this weekend to eliminate one of the most important to him: take home the winner’s trophy from the O’Reilly Auto Parts Nationals at Royal Purple Raceway near Houston.

“That’s where I grew up racing and it always has been a special track to me,” said Torrence, who resides in Kilgore, Texas – an easy three-hour drive from the track.  “As far as I am concerned, there’s not a better time to start than now.  This season is going by in a hurry and we aren’t even in the top 10 yet.”

He trails Doug Kalitta by just 31 points, a margin a few round wins in Sunday’s eliminations could erase.

“We have been struggling as a team,” Torrence commented.  “But I know we have a car and a team that can win races and turn things around.  We want to be living lucky.  We will keep working until we get everything figured out.

“We are going to have a lot of friends and fans there.  It would be very satisfying if we do get that win in Texas.”
