TORRENCE VS. LUCAS AGAIN (TIMES 4) IN SPRING NATIONALS FIRST ROUND

April 27, 2013 -- A rain storm in the Baytown, Texas area near Houston teased everyone attending the O’Reilly Auto Parts Spring Nationals at Royal Purple Raceway for much of the day and kept Steve Torrence and the Capco Contractors Inc. Top Fuel team under cover.

Despite a valiant effort to dry the track, a hard rain finally forced NHRA officials to send everyone home in the late afternoon before Steve Torrence and the Capco Contractors Inc. Top Fuel team could make one lap.

No nitromethane-fueled race cars turned a wheel on the track.

Torrence stayed in eighth place with his Friday run of 4.833seconds at 317.62 mph and meets a familiar first-round foe – Morgan Lucas.  This is the fourth consecutive Mello Yello series race that the two have squared off in the opening round.

Torrence won at Gainesville and Lucas had wins at Las Vegas and last week at Charlotte.

“I am tired of racing Morgan in the first round! That has to change!” said Torrence in jest.

“There is a 50-per cent chance of storms in our area again on Sunday, so we’ll do what we can to get the Capco dragster down the track and make the most of it.  We need to win some rounds so we can make up ground on the guys ahead of us in points.
