TORRENCE GETS BETTER; GRABS PROVISIONAL NO. 2 SLOT AT BRISTOL

June 14, 2013 -- Prior to Friday’s two qualifying runs for Sunday’s Thunder Valley Nationals, Steve Torrence said he wanted his performances to move forward . . . and it certainly did on his last 1000-foot lap.

When he hammered the throttle, the Torrence Racing/Capco Contractors Inc. Top Fuel dragster bolted from the starting line and didn’t slow until it crossed the finish line.  Steve Torrence was the No. 2 qualifier Friday at the Thunder Valley Nationals.  Spencer Massey was No. 1 with a 3.775-second run.

“We made two very good runs Friday, and now we want to build on that during Saturday’s two runs,” said Torrence.  “We want to keep getting better.”

“That last run definitely was a confidence-booster . . . and a relief for all of us,” he continued.

His first run ended in 3.864 seconds at 318.92 mph.

Crew chief Lee Beard and team spent the last two weeks fine-tuning the car and the tuning combinations to be more competitive during the eight remaining races leading into the six-race Countdown to the Championship finale.
