CONFIDENCE BOOSTED, TORRENCE SEEKS ANOTHER WINNING PERFORMANCE

June 20, 2013 --His amazing, dominating victory Sunday at Bristol, Tenn. still lingers in Steve Torrence’s thoughts, but now his primary objective is to replicate that performance and become the first Top Fuel winner of the Auto-Plus New England NHRA Nationals at New England Dragway in Epping, New Hampshire.

Torrence’s final-round conquest of Texas rival Spencer Massey brought instant happiness and vanquished the burden of a sour start to the new Mello Yello Drag Racing Series season.

“We are very happy we finally are able to show the championship potential of our Torrence Racing/Capco Contrators Inc. team,” said Torrence. “We had been struggling, but Lee Beard, our new crew chief, really surprised us with how quickly he turned things around.  The Bristol race was just his fourth with us.

“Lee is an accomplished tuner who has won a lot of races.  When I can go up to the starting line every time with confidence in my team, it takes the pressure off, and all I have to do is step on the gas on time and get the car to the finish line.”

Last Friday, his primary concern was earning enough points to move into the top 10 and put himself in a position to advance to the Countdown.

He forged his way into ninth place (459 points) at Bristol and he promises he will “continue to run for points and climb higher in the standings.”

This is the team’s second full season.  Eight more races remain on the docket before the Countdown to 1 begins.

“We want to keep this team winning,” Torrence said. “We're looking forward to racing at Epping. There is a level playing field there because no one has raced there yet. We have the momentum from the last win and that might give us just enough of an edge to take home another Wally.”
