BILLY TORRENCE MEETS CLAY MILLICAN IN FIRST ROUND

September 14, 2013 -- Qualifying for a NHRA top fuel race may look easy, but as any of the competitors who drive those 8,000-horsepower land rockets will remind you that is definitely far from the truth.

Billy Torrence agrees, but his transition from a Super Comp Sportsman race car into the Torrence Racing/Capco Contractors Inc. fuel car has looked seamless.  It did appear that way this weekend when he made three runs, including the 11th quickest – a 3.822-second lap at 319.67 mph.

Now he will be taking another step toward the possibility of racing his son Steve on Sunday in the Carlyle Tools Carolina Nationals at zMAX  Dragway Charlotte.

“That would fun,” Billy said.  “It is what we would like to do.”

Billy will be racing Clay Millican in the opening round.  Millican was sixth with a 3.789 at 324.

“I’m looking forward to the race.  We want to have a good weekend.”
