UNEXPECTED TIRE SMOKE SIDELINES STEVE TORRENCE

September 15, 2013 -- The results of Steve Torrence’s two good qualifying days at zMAX
Dragway turned as sour as vinegar on Sunday when he hit the throttle in the first round of eliminations in the Carlyle Tools Carolina Nationals.

The Torrence Racing/Capco Contractors Inc. Top Fuel Dragster didn’t plant him back in the seat.  Tire smoke came from the rear tires and ruined the lap.  He reached the finish line in 8.450 seconds at 71.10 mph after Pat Dakin’s winning 3.833 at 371.34.

“That was very disappointing for our team,” said a somber Torrence.  “We felt good about the race but it didn’t take long for things to go wrong.  The crew was looking for reason why it happened as soon as I got back to the pits.

“We will be busy preparing for next week’s race at Dallas, one of our two home-state races.
