STEVE TORRENCE: ‘IT IS TIME FOR US TO BOUNCE BACK'

September 18, 2013 -- The memory of his short Countdown to the Championship race on Sunday lingers with Steve Torrence like a bad cold.

The best remedy will be an improved performance from the Torrence Racing/Capco Contractors Inc. Top Fuel dragster team this weekend at the AAA Texas Fall Nationals in the Texas Motorplex near Dallas.

“The Charlotte race was very disappointing for our Capco team,” said Torrence, a Texas native from Kilgore.  “We did drop into 10th place in the Mello Yello standings.

“Fortunately for us, that was the first race in the Countdown and the points are still very close.  We can’t afford something like that to happen again if we want to stay in contention.

“We will keep fighting for points to see how high we can climb in the next five races.”

He has 2,044 points and sits in a group of drivers that are separated by just 47
points:  Antron Brown, (9th 2,050), Bob Vandergriff, (8th, 2,051) and Khalid al Balooshi, (7th, 2,087).

“We want to prove we are a better team than what our recent results show,” Torrence remarked. “We are very excited about this race because the Motorplex is our home track.  Everyone from Capco and all of our many Texas fans will be supporting us.

“What better place to get things turned around?”
