ANTRON BROWN BEATS BILLY TORRENCE IN FIRST ROUND

September 29, 2013 --  It was the third Sunday morning at the race track for rookie Top Fuel driver Billy Torrence and, as things played out, it unfortunately brought the same unhappy ending for the Torrence Racing/Capco Contractors Inc. Top Fuel team: a loss.

He was matched against a tough driver – reigning NHRA Top Fuel champion Antron Brown – in the first round of the AAA Midwest Nationals at Gateway Motorsports Park. 

Brown left first and Torrence’s upset hopes evaporated when his engine dropped a cylinder that triggered tire smoke.  Brown’s 1000-foot time was 3.827 seconds at 321.73 mph to 4.138 at 261.27.

“There really isn’t much to say,” said Torrence.  “We are going to stay after it until we fix the trouble.”

The team travels to Reading, Pa. for next week’s game.
