STEVE TORRENCE TIED FOR THIRD PLACE IN NATIONAL POINTS AFTER SEMI-FINAL FINISH IN POMONA

Pomona 2014February 10, 2014 -- Steve Torrence is off to his best start ever as a Top Fuel dragster pilot and team owner in NHRA's Mello Yello Drag Racing Series.  The Texas driver bested Terry McMillen and Clay Millican during this weekend's NHRA Winternationals in Pomona, California; en-route to his semi-final matchup with eventual race winner Khalid alBalooshi.

In what was certainly the closest race of the day in Top Fuel, Torrence left the starting line first and lead down the track until alBalooshi's dragster edged by with a 3.783 e.t. (318.69 mph) to Torrence's game 3.804 e.t. (323.66 mph). The margin of victory was just .0018 of a second, which equates to about 10 inches at the finish line.

Torrence's stellar performance ties him with fellow Texan Spencer Massey for the no. 3 spot in the National Standings.

"We got Richard Hogan back as Crew Chief," Torrence said. "We are putting the combination back to where we had it in 2012, and the car seems to be responding well to that.  The whole team is doing a great job and everyone is really paying attention to the little details on the car. I am looking for good things from this team this year."

The next stop on the 2014 tour will be at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park in Phoenix on Feb. 21-23. Torrence and the team will look to continue their strong start to the season in hopes of winning the team's first Top Fuel Championship.
